I could not for the life of me figure out what was causing this difference. I was entering the chain in the same direction, I was making the same number of stitches, and so what was my hold up? Was I distracted? Were my fingers and hook no longer obeying?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_609\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6332.1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-609\" class=\"wp-image-609 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6332.1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6332.1\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6332.1-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6332.1-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6332.1-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Working yarn in front of hook, being pulled into chain stitch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Then, I noticed a very subtle difference\u2026.where was the working yarn drawing from? In every instant that I had a problem with the join twisting the working yarn was in front of my work, in front of my hook. This was the cause of the difference. Usually my working yarn is always behind my hook, this makes for a smooth fabric and joins that behave, but the simple acts of letting the working yarn get in front of the hook and everything goes backward.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_608\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6333.1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-608\" class=\"wp-image-608 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6333.1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6333.1\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6333.1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6333.1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6333.1-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-608\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Top join is worked with working yarn behind hook, and bottom join is worked with working yarn in front of hook. Notice the twist of the loops in the bottom join.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is similar to the effects of how you \u201cyarn over\u201d, the placement has very subtle and telling results (for a description of that post check out \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindadeancrochet.com\/blog\/?p=314\" target=\"_blank\">How do you YO?<\/a>\u201d). The working yarn in front of the hook creates an extra twist to my join and, though creates a more textured fabric, is not necessarily the effect I am looking for.<br \/>\nSo I put a little extra knowledge of how crochet stitches work in my basket, and will have to play with it in the future and see what effects it can create, that I actually intend for.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simple things can make a huge difference\u2026.I was reminded of this just the other day, as I was putting together some \u201cjoin-as-you-go\u201d motifs.
